HIP Happy Hour: Our Favorite Non-Alcoholic Cocktails

The start of a new year always invites reflection, prompting change and new possibilities for the coming months. January is an excellent starting point for realizing fresh dreams and instituting positive habits. It’s also been given the moniker Dry January. With this in mind, we’ve developed our favorite cocktail recipes featuring pioneering non-alcoholic spirit brands. Whether you’re looking to satisfy long-time sobriety or seeking social balance, you can create these modern mocktails with ease, and still join in on the fun.

The first to be featured is KIN Eupphorics’ High Rhode, a special blend of adaptogens, nootropics and botanicals designed to provide a “lifted mind, relaxed body and kindred spirit.” Please read up on the brand’s warnings and requests before indulging, but don’t let the protective jargon deter you. KIN is meant to enhance social openness and provide relaxation — promises made by alcoholic spirits — only with natural and ethical ingredients. This French Martini is a great update of its original, now with a raspberry, and non-judgment-impeding, twist!

French Martini with Kin Euphorics

Ingredients

2 oz KIN Euphorics High Rhode non-alcoholic spirit

2 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice

1 1/2 oz raspberry simple syrup

Lemon peel for garnish

Raspberry Simple Syrup

1 c raspberries

1/2 c sugar

1/2 c water

Before you begin: please read KIN Euphoric’s website for warnings and restrictions. Do not drink when pregnant. Do not consume more than 4 servings in 24-hours. If you are taking prescribed medications please seek medical counsel before drinking.

For the raspberry simple syrup: combine raspberries, sugar and water in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer and stir, until raspberries are broken down in the liquid. Strain over a heat-safe container. For best results, let sit for at least one hour.

For the cocktail: combine KIN Euphorics High Rhode, freshly squeezed lemon juice and raspberry simple syrup to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until cold. Pour into a martini glass. Peel a thin strip of lemon peel and twist, allowing the juice to mist over the top of the beverage. Place the peel in the drink for garnish. Cheers!

This non-alcoholic version of an Old Fashioned is inspired by Beaker and Gray’s Barbory Bracer cocktail in Miami where the addition of apricot comes from a 12-day infusing process. This version keeps it simple with apricot preserves or nectar, though feel free to try and infuse this smoky, sophisticated American Malt.

The addition of bitters means several drops of concentrated alcohol which can easily be substituted with orange or lemon juice to bring out the citrus layers in the spirit as well as the twist of orange for garnish.

New fashioned with lyre’s American malt

Ingredients

2 oz Lyre’s American Malt non-alcoholic spirit

1 tbs apricot preserves or 1 1/2 oz apricot nectar

1/4 oz orange bitters

Combine the apricot preserves and orange bitters to the bottom of an old-fashioned glass and muddle to combine. (If using apricot nectar, add orange bitters and stir to combine.) Add ice and top with 2 ounces of Lyre’s American Malt non-alcoholic spirit. Top with a twist of orange. Cheers!

The Espresso Martini is a classic cocktail created to awaken and reenergize. The espresso in this version does just that, while the Lyre’s Dark Cane Spirit and salted caramel cream add a flavor unparalleled.

The layers of indulgence make for a sippable mocktail that you’ll be savoring until the last drop.

Espresso Martini with Salted Caramel Cream

Ingredients

1 oz espresso

1 oz Lyre’s Dark Cane Spirit or Coffee Originale

1/4 oz simple syrup

The Cream

1/2 c half-and-half

1/4 c caramel sauce

2 pinches of sea salt

Espresso beans, for garnish

For the cream: combine half-and-half to a large cup fit for an emersion blender. Combine on low speed for 3 minutes, or until foaming but still thin when stirred. Add the caramel sauce and sea salt and blend for an additional 30 seconds, or until the liquid is still thick when stirred. Follow the same method when using a steam attachment on an espresso machine.

Set the salted caramel cream aside and fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the espresso, Lyre's non-alcoholic spirit and simple syrup, and shake until cold. Pour the liquid into a martini glass and spoon on the salted caramel cream in a 1/4-inch layer. Top with 3 espresso beans per traditional espresso martini manner. Cheers!
