Welcome to the Health: It’s Personal Journal
We could not be more excited to share this space with you.
We (educators, Sean and Kate and journalist, McKenna) started Phronesis Health Initiative because of our own experiences with a lack of resources, conversations and connections about important topics related to health. We saw this lack in our own childhood, education, relationships, parenting and personal journeys.
Our goal was to provide courses sharing multiple perspectives from doctors, therapists, experts and people with unique, yet often shared, experiences. We realize that everyone’s journey is different and it is important to understand the science, but also to fully know themselves and be able to confidently communicate feelings and needs to those they love so that they might strengthen relationships and deepen connections.
We started creating courses for teens and young adults (with modules for parents and care-givers) just as the pandemic hit and video production naturally came to a halt. Though we had to pivot, our goal to reach our audience with knowledge and story never changed, so we chose a safer medium. Our podcast, Health: It’s Personal has been an unexpected joy that has brought us together with caring, passionate medical professionals and exceptional, brave humans that have important lessons and experiences to share.
As things progressed, the podcast gradually shifted from a bridge connecting our audience with much needed resources and solace to a meaningful community of generous and courageous individuals all growing together. We’ve had such a wonderful time speaking with experts and extraordinary people on important topics regarding mental health, nutrition, physical health, finances, exercise, race and social issues, gender identity, sexuality, parenting, and so much more.
Many of these guests featured on our podcast have continued to inspire us, and we’re so lucky that they’ve kept in touch with us after their episodes released. This prompted us to plan more content where they could continue to be involved as well!
In addition to our wonderful workshops, our frequent Instagram Live events, and planning educational resources and content with these past guests, we’ve also decided to create a blog where we can share all of these continuing conversations with you. Our goal with this blog is to feature helpful resources, discussions, topics, and content about all matters of health, just like we do with our podcast, workshops, and courses. We will create some blog posts by ourselves - Kate, McKenna, and Sean - and will also feature guest blog posts from experts, individuals, and past guests.
It is our sincerest hope that you find these posts insightful and helpful. At the very least, may they serve as a reminder that you are not alone - we are here for you, and we are a part of your team too! Some days, when we can’t reach out to our own support systems, we might need the help of others. Let the HIP Family be that resource for you.
As always, if you ever have any topics you think would be important for us to cover, guests you’d love to hear from on the podcast or read on our blog, books you’d love to suggest to us, or any other ideas you think might help yourself or others, please send them our way. You can reach us at info@thehippodcast.com, or on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter! We mean it when we say… please @ us!
